about

A mixed compilation release by independent electronica artists from the twoism.org messageboard.

Igloomag review:
You have to admire the passion, persistence and pursuit the folks at Twoism have evolved over the years. Basing their collective inspiration and resources for the imprint on Boards Of Canada’s Twoism (Warp, 2002 and initially released on Music70, 1995), they’ve certainly been able to adapt to an economic climate that has rendered many start-ups null and void. Instead, they’ve culled the audio-visual energy of a host of talented musicians to unveil the One On Twoism series of compilations, now on their fifth effort. As this assembly of electronic music enthusiasts stay true to a pleasant sound—relating to humanity, nature and the universe—there’s always been a calm associated with their productions.

On Volume 5, twenty-four (yes, twenty-four!) musicians offer up thirty tracks available as a download and/or CDr package. Lightly brushing the ears with cascading ambient electronics, folk, chill and experiments with field recordings, sampling and oddly coherent interludes ranging from 30-seconds to 5-minutes, V5 is simply subtle and engaging. Without mentioning the obvious charm and nostalgia Boards Of Canada has unfolded for the past two decades, V5 takes a tranquil dip into organic data crunching and mild-tempered instrumental snapshots of downtempo. While several pieces just fade into and out of the panorama invisibly, others reach to the outer levels of sonic heavens leaving the audience in a state of awe. Even the thought of commenting on each piece would be an exercise in futility. With so many peaks and valleys, crevasses and transitions, colors and shapes, V5 is a lightly textured synopsis of the imprints varied sound escapes.

As Twoism continues to graft their own signature on the tried and true origins of BoC’s sound, they’ve also inadvertently managed to keep a firm-hold on hypnotizing frequency bubbles that are diverse, captivating and elusive.
